Mid Face Lift

Aging isn’t kind to the skin and support tissues below our eyes and on our cheeks. The skin on these areas tends to droop, lengthen, and flatten. This is one of the first areas of the face to show the telltale signs of aging. Dr. Bedrossian can turn back the clock with a mid-face lift. This procedure targets this area of the face, restoring a smooth, more youthful look to the under-eye areas down through the cheeks to the area around the mouth.

What Is A Mid-Face Lift?

Sometimes referred to as a cheek lift, a mid-face lift elevates the fat pad in the cheek, returning fullness to the eyes and cheeks. Dr. Bedrossian targets the areas around the nose, beneath the eyes, and down through the corners of the mouth. The goal is to bring the support tissues in the mid-face back up and to smooth and tighten the skin. Patients love that Dr. Bedrossian’s mid-face lifts correct their under-eye bags, the hollowness in their upper cheeks, and prominent nasolabial folds.

Candidates For A Mid-Face Lift

As with all cosmetic surgeries, every case is unique. Still, there are some common characteristics for people who can benefit from a mid-face lift.
If you have:

  • Heaviness and sagging below the cheeks
  • Hollowness beneath your eyes
  • Lengthened areas under your eyes
  • Creases and depressions under your eyes
  • Prominent nasolabial folds

Benefits Of A Mid-Face Lift

These surgeries focus, as you would expect, on the mid-face area. That means the goal is to specifically target aging beneath the eyes, the cheeks, and the nasolabial folds running from the nose down to the mouth. By bringing these areas back up and removing wrinkles and flattening, the patient looks dramatically younger.

Mid-Face Lift Procedure

There is variation in the methods used depending on the individual patient needs, but this is a general description of these surgeries. Dr. Bedrossian first makes small, deep incisions in the muscle tissue around the temples and in front of the ears. He places these incisions within the hairline, if possible. Then an endoscope is inserted allowing complete visualization of the area being targeted. The muscles around the nose and in the cheeks are pulled upward and stitched into the structures below the eye sockets. The goal is to elevate the sagging cheek tissue (the malar fat pad) back to its former, higher position.

Results Of A Mid-Face Lift Surgery

These changes are permanent, but they obviously don’t stop the aging process. Still, future tissue sagging will begin from a much younger starting point. Many people feel the elevation gained by elevating the cheek tissue endures longer than the results of a full facelift. Patients can expect their results to last over a decade. Your sagging at that point will be far less than those patients who have not had a mid-face lift.

How Does A Mid-Face Lift Compare To A Full Facelift?

A mid-face lift has more limited goal than a full facelift. Dr. Bedrossian addresses the areas beneath the eyes down to the mouth with these procedures. A full facelift doesn’t treat the under-eye areas, but it rejuvenates the lower face down through the upper neck. Mid-face lifts don’t target the neck or the jowls.

Can A Mid-Face Lift Be Combined With Other Procedures?

Many of Dr. Bedrossian’s patients like to combine mid-face lifts with lower eyelid surgery (lower eyelid blepharoplasty). This rejuvenates both the eyelids and the area beneath the eyes. For most people, those two areas, along with the cheeks, are creating most of the aging on their faces. Mid-face lifts can also be combined with a brow lift to add the upper third of the face. Brow lifts address sagging on the forehead down through the brow area.

Mid-Face Lift Recovery

Because Dr. Bedrossian uses an endoscope or combines your mid-face lift with a lower eyelid blepharoplasty, recovery is not difficult. There is less bruising, swelling, and tissue trauma because the endoscope allows much more focused work. Most patients generally only need a week or less for recovery. Another benefit of the endoscopic method is minimal scarring. Plus, with incisions hidden in the hairline wherever possible, what small scars there are usually are hidden.

Does Mid-Face Lift Surgery Leave Visible Scarring?

In contrast to the extensive incisions necessary for full facelifts, endoscopic methods usually minimize incision size with Dr. Bedrossian’s mid-face lifts. Plus, these small scars are located within the hairline to effectively hide them.
